the Promising of the Practice Cindy Baugher introduced the next level of the exercise which will give us the opportunity to go deeper in our understanding of the Promising Practices. Cindy asked us to think about what we would like to learn from each other and what do we want to know? Site teams were broken into smaller groups to enable the maximum number of pairings across sites for deeper learning. Supplied with Inquiry Guidelines each site team was paired with a team from a different site to engage in a deeper conversation about the practices. In each small group one site told the story of the promising practice, and then inquired into it with the other site. Learnings were recorded on flip charts. After 30 minutes they repeated the process for the other site. After an hour, site teams were reconfigured into new pairings and the process was repeated. We worked with the charted findings, the Practice Clusters, on Day II. These can be found later in the report (click here). Inquiry Guidelines This is an inquiry into the practice—what it is, how it works and why, who is involved and affected. We’re seeking to go beyond what we knew when we walked through the door, and deepen our knowledge in surprising ways. The way into this inquiry is to tell the story, and partner in an inquiry. A good story answers some simple questions—who, what, when, where, how, and why—with a depth and complexity that engages our curiosity, and makes us want more. So, we begin this inquiry with story telling, engaging your partners with you in drawing out the details behind the narrative. “A story brings a person from a state of ignorance to a state of awareness.” We want to be able to share the information you generate with everyone here, and later seek to identify global patterns, conditions, characteristics that support good practice. So, please consider at least these areas of inquiry as a guideline:
To end the day, we shared our thoughts on the process.
